Tiger’s Nest – Thimpu, Bhutan

The main attraction in the Paro area is the monastery called Paro Taktsang, better known as Tiger’s Nest. This world-famous Buddhist monastery clings to the side of a high cliff in the upper Paro Valley about 10 kilometers (6 miles) north of town. The sacred complex was built in 1692 around a cave where an 8th-century Buddhist master named Guru Padmasambhava is said to have meditated for four months.

Inside the monastery photography and videography are strictly forbidden but there are numerous shrines dedicated to the second Buddha, Guru Padmasambhava.
